Founded by Debbi Fields in 1977, Mrs. Fields Cookies is still around today, tempting us at many of our local malls and shopping establishments. Every mall leasing agent knows that if he can convince the Mrs. Fields franchise to put a store front up he will be guaranteeing sales at at least one store in his mall.
Don’t lie to yourself. You know that if you walk by a Mrs. Fields the smell alone will draw you in. But if it you put a clothes pin on your nose and walked by, just happening to sneak a peek, you know you wouldn’t be able to resist the multi-colored sprinkles or the gorgeous rainbow-colored frosting on those larger than life cookie cakes they proudly display in the window. Proudly because they know that one look and they have you hooked, no questions asked.
As you walk up the counter you might be whispering to yourself “Just one, you already had lunch,” but you know as soon as you get to the front of the line to place your order you see the sign they have prominently displayed on the counter “3 Cookies For $4″ and you crack under peer pressure. There isn’t one soul who can walk up to place an order and without hesitation ask for “One sugar cookie.” Oh no, we all know that isn’t possible.
Debbi didn’t found Mrs. Fields by herself, nope, she had some help from her faithful husband Randall K Fields. But, as any woman can tell you, Debbi was the boss and therefore the establishment was named rightfully after her! JK! But seriously, Mr. Fields was most likely not in the kitchen, so sorry Mr. Fields, no recognition for you! The first Mrs. Fields was opened in Palo Alto, California. But alas, the Fields no longer own the establishment, as they sold it to an investment firm in the 1990s. Luckily the firm was smart enough to keep the Mrs. Fields name so they wouldn’t loose brand recognition for those tasty morsels!
The firm also invested in what are now Mrs. Fields sister stores: TCBY Icecream, Original Cookie Company, Pretzel Time, Hot Sam’s, Pretzelmaker, and Great American Cookies.
Now that we’re super hungry it looks like it’s time to bake some cookies…or get in the car and head to our local mall for some Mrs. Fields, but we’re trying to resist the temptation!

So, today just happened to be National Doughnut Day, which didn’t exactly coincide with my diet (which I just started this morning). And go figure Dunkin Donuts decided to use the National “holiday” as an excuse to give away “free” doughnuts to those of us who don’t really need any more sweets!
The reason I put “free” in quotes is because they weren’t just giving away their melt-in-your-mouth, savory treats. Oh no, not Dunkies. Instead, you got a free doughnut with the “purchase of any drink.” Well, in reality, my free doughnut actually cost me a little over $2. And when you really think about it, I would have never walked to my local Dunkies today for a coffee anyhow if I didn’t know I’d be getting a “free” doughnut with my purchase.
Thanks Dunkies, for getting me with your clever marketing tactics. And for ruining my diet.
PS…the doughnut was great though, but shhh don’t tell!

I love shrimp. This soup is so easy and delicious! Get a loaf of crusty baked bread and you’ve got a fast scrumptious meal!

The latest man to grace the James Bond movies with his prescience, Daniel Craig, will now be available in grocery store’s freezer sections in the UK. The 41-year-old has a body that has gained him his own popsicle! The 007 good guy will come in three flavors, blueberry, pomegranate and cranberry, all of which will be chiseled to the shape of his body. The popsicles have been referred to by many news companies as “Sex on a stick.”
The company that has come up with this fascinating idea? Del Monte of course – the company best known with supplying us with our veggies at dinner every night. Del Montel spokesman Matt O’Conner released a statement about the pops saying, “Daniel Craig … is officially immortalized as super smooth and licensed to chill.”
The ice lollies will be released this week, June 1-7, to start of Britain’s first National Ice Cream Week with a bang.
The reason for choosing Craig? Well, it just so happens that more than 1,000 women in the UK were surveyed to see which British celebrity they liked best in the following categories:
- Charm
- Looks
- Smooth Appeal
- Confidence
And it looks like Craig beat out the competition by a landslide! Second place went to Jude Law and third place to Hugh Grand.
If they ran the same contest in the United States we’re pretty sure George Clooney, Hugh Jackman or Zac Efron would win!
