Meeting in gym class in 7th grade, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield became friends, and later business partners after completing an ice cream correspondence at Penn State. The first Ben and Jerry’s was opened in 1978 in a renovated gas station in Vermont.

In 1986, Ben and Jerry’s began offering tours of its plant. The year also held the introduction of the “Cowmobile” - a modified mobile home that drives cross country to deliver free ice cream.

Once a year, on the company’s anniversary, Ben and Jerry’s holds Free Cone Day. Each year over a million free cones are given out at stores around the country.

Ben was the original taste tester of the Ben and Jerry’s flavors because he could not taste very well - making the developed ice cream rich in flavor.

Ben and Jerry’s introduced its line of frozen yogurts in 1992. My favorite Ben and Jerry’s flavor - Cherry Garcia - was named after the guitarist for the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia. Other Ben and Jerry’s flavors include:
