Hurray, Doughnuts!

Doughnuts

By Heather Blanchette

When it’s cold outside, nobody wants to take the time to travel in the morning to their local coffee shop to buy a dozen doughnuts, yet the craving doesn’t go away! That’s why I found an easy home-made doughnut recipe! With a pack of Pillsbury grand dinner rolls, sugar, cinnamon and oil, you can make a batch of doughnuts that rivals any large coffee chain’s assortment. Read the rest of this entry »

Baking Is Exercise in My Book

February 29th, 2008

By Heather Blanchette

There’s no need to feel bad about leaving a little more than the last reminisce of batter in your mixing bowl for yourself when baking. As far as I’m concerned, the arm strength it takes to mix the ingredients together for a batch of chocolate chip cookies burns enough calories to excuse the heaping spoonfuls of raw batter consumed while the cookies are in the oven.

After my slightly less than successful cupcakes yesterday, I decided to make something I knew would turn out great tonight. I made sugar cookies and chocolate chip cookie brownies. My brother comes over once a week with no other purpose than to forget the rest of his dining-hall-infused week by eating everything in my apartment, and this week is no different. Our normally very full bowl of cookies on the table is quite far from filled right now, and he’s still here for another few hours. Read the rest of this entry »

Oh Sweet Butterfinger!

Butterfinger

By Clayton Southworth

Butterfinger has been around since 1923! Any candy bar still in demand since the 1920’s is only popular because it is quality. I remember growing up and sneaking to the TV when my parents weren’t looking to catch Bart Simpson with his Butterfinger and skateboard. This type of Butterfinger activity has gone on for generations. The truth is, no matter how you think of candy, Butterfinger truly is one of the lasting and truly great candies of all time.

You can do anything with a Butterfinger… well, just about anything. Eating it plain is great. If you are the creative chef, you can crunch it up and mix it with almost any dessert (all kind of cakes, cookies, ice cream, etc.) It can serve as toppings, it can also jut be decoration. Take the Time to Chill

Cup Cakes

By Heather Blanchette

As a second semester Senior in college, I am told daily by my family and classmates to chill-out; but who would have guessed my baked goods needed the same reminder! A girls-night-in always requires snacks, and in an attempt to heed the warnings about spending too much time on schoolwork I decided to set aside designated baking time yesterday morning before my friends came over.

I have an addiction to cupcakes. My favorite is yellow cake with pink, strawberry icing, topped with an overwhelming amount of sprinkles! But yesterday, making the same cupcakes I make all the time seemed boring, and instead I decided to do some experimenting—and who better to test out baking experiments than your friends (who will hopefully lie and tell you whatever you made rocks, even if it actually tastes like rocks).

I’m known for my cheesecake cupcakes, with graham cracker crust and strawberries and chocolate sauce on top, but this time I was going for something a little different. I had a craving for smores like it was nobody’s business. And what better way to bring back childhood campfire memories than through a cupcake? Read the rest of this entry »
